Key ideas in 中国象棋：行棋与攻防
- 中国象棋棋子停留在横竖线相交的交叉点上，而不是格子方块内
- 棋盘中间没有画竖线的开阔地带是楚河汉界，代表红黑双方的阵营分界
- 两端带有斜交叉交叉线的3×3区域是九宫，将（帅）和士终局都不能离开九宫
- 车只要行进路线上没有障碍，就可以在横线或竖线上直行任意步数
- 车中途可以在路径上的任何一个空交叉点停下，由走棋者自主决定步长
- 只要遇到任何棋子阻挡，车就不能直接穿过
- 车是全盘威力最大的子力，单车的控制范围和攻击力居全军之首
- 象棋行话常说“一车抵两子”，单车通常等同于马炮双子或双马/双炮的战力
- 单车只换对方单独一个马或炮通常严重亏损，属于新手常见的亏子失误
- 炮吃子时，目标与炮之间必须且只能隔着一枚任意棋子作为炮架（无论敌我）
- 象棋吃子是“取而代之”：移动到敌方棋子所在点，并把对方棋子拿离棋盘
- 马走‘日’字是先直线走一步、再斜走一步跨到对角格
- 只要第一步直线方向紧邻的交叉点上有任意棋子（无论敌我），就构成‘蹩马腿’
- 被蹩住方向的两个‘日’字目标点马都无法跳达
- 相/象沿对角线走两个格子（俗称‘飞田’），主要负责保卫九宫和后方
- 相/象受规则限制永远不能跨越楚河汉界进入敌方半场
