High-Velocity Photoshop
Accelerate your creative pipeline with high-speed retouching techniques, non-destructive procedural workflows, and advanced automation. Designed for experienced practitioners who need to produce agency-grade edits in a fraction of the time.
Like Duolingo, but for High-Velocity Photoshop. Tomo turns the whole topic into a game you play five minutes a day, until it actually sticks.
20 levels across 3 sections, about 40 minutes end to end, roughly 8 days at five minutes a day. It moves through The Zero-Friction Workspace, Rapid Retouching and Compositing, and Automation and Production Scaling.

Key ideas in High-Velocity Photoshop
- Holding a tool's key enables spring-loaded behavior, reverting back to the Brush tool instantly on release
- Tapping a key switches the persistent tool state and requires a second keypress to return, risking interrupted brush flow and lost stylus focus
- Spacebar acts as a spring-loaded pan shortcut while holding any active brush or rendering tool
- Opt/Alt + Right-click drag scales diameter horizontally and edge feathering/hardness vertically without visiting the Options bar
- Opt/Alt + Shift + Right-Click summons the transient HUD Color Picker directly under the stylus nib
- Bracket keys change diameter incrementally, but HUD dragging provides continuous visual feedback of falloff on the canvas
- Stamp Visible (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E / Cmd+Opt+Shift+E) requires a four-finger claw that interrupts pen grip unless mapped to a streamlined key or single macro
- Create/Release Clipping Mask defaults to a three-key chord (Ctrl+Alt+G / Cmd+Opt+G) or precision clicking the dividing line between layers in the Layers panel
- Inverting a mask (Cmd/Ctrl + I) is already an efficient two-key native chord, unlike composite baking or layer clipping which demand panel navigation or unwieldy chords
- Alt/Option-clicking a layer's eyeball toggles 'Isolate Layer' mode without destroying the prior visibility state of hidden background or adjustment layers
- Manually toggling visibility on each layer invalidates the complex show/hide setup of an advanced multi-layer document
- If you accidentally toggle any other layer's visibility while isolated, Photoshop forgets the stored multi-layer visibility state
- Holding a tool's key (e.g., 'R' for Rotate View, 'H' for Hand) enables spring-loaded behavior, reverting back to the Brush tool instantly on release
- Opening the nested Smart Object (.psb) lets you paint or clone directly on flat source pixels in an unwarped coordinate space
- Saving the nested .psb instantly propagates raster changes upstream through all active distortion meshes and warp envelopes in the master file
- Retouching outside the nested hierarchy forces destructive rasterization of transforms
You've tried the other tabs
Thirty open tabs. Four facts you actually kept.
You watched. You nodded. By Sunday it was gone.
One answer, then back to scrolling.
Eight weeks. You meant to finish. You didn't.
Tomo gives High-Velocity Photoshop the Duolingo treatment: levels, streaks, and quick quizzes that test what you just learned. That game loop is what the tabs above never had, so it's the one you actually finish.
Here's what playing it feels like
A real question from this course. Take your best guess.
What happens if you accidentally tap 'R' instead of holding it while sketching fine lines?
