What you'll learn

Key ideas in Pensar con números

  • Separar cada sumando en sus decenas y sus unidades simplifica el cálculo mental
  • Sumar primero las partes grandes (decenas) y luego las pequeñas (unidades) evita llevarse números mentalmente
  • Reunir los dos totales parciales da el resultado final sin papel
  • Sumar a un número redondo cercano (29 a 30) resulta mucho más sencillo en la mente
  • Si sumas 1 de más al principio para llegar a 30, debes restar 1 al resultado final
  • El ajuste final compensa exactamente la cantidad añadida para redondear
  • Duplicar un factor y cortar el otro por la mitad preserva el producto total
  • La técnica es ideal cuando hay un factor que termina en 5 o resulta incómodo y otro número par fácil de partir
  • Calcular de izquierda a derecha empieza por las centenas para anclar el tamaño real del resultado
  • Sumar primero 300 + 200 da la base del total (500)
  • Agregar luego las decenas (40 + 80 = 120) y consolidar el resultado final (620)
  • Multiplicar un número por una suma de dos partes amigables (como 10 y 8) equivale a multiplicar por cada parte por separado
  • 7 × 18 se puede resolver como (7 × 10) + (7 × 8)
  • También puede abordarse restando: (7 × 20) - (7 × 2)
  • El 10% se halla moviendo una coma decimal un lugar a la izquierda
  • El 5% es exactamente la mitad del 10%
