Python from Scratch
Learn to write real, working Python code to automate repetitive tasks, analyze information, and build your own applications. Master core syntax, data structures, and practical libraries through hands-on logic.
Like Duolingo, but for Python from Scratch. Tomo turns the whole topic into a game you play five minutes a day, until it actually sticks.
27 levels across 4 sections, about 54 minutes end to end, roughly 11 days at five minutes a day. It moves through Making Things Happen with Code, Managing and Transforming Data, Packaging Logic into Reusable Systems, and Building Complete Applications. It starts from scratch.

Key ideas in Python from Scratch
- Quoted text prints out verbatim character for character
- Unquoted mathematical expressions are computed before the result prints
- The print function displays multiple items separated by a space
- Quotes designate text string values in Python
- Numbers without quotes represent integers or decimal floats
- Capitalized True and False represent boolean states
- Python throws a TypeError when attempting to concatenate text and numbers with +
- Mixing numbers into text requires explicit conversion like str(10)
- An f prefix immediately before the opening quote turns a string into an f-string
- Curly braces {} inside an f-string act as placeholders that evaluate variable values
- Python's input() pauses script execution until the user presses Enter
- The input() function always returns user entry as a string, even if they typed digits
- In Python, == checks equality while != checks inequality
- Comparison operators like > and <= evaluate directly to True or False
- Strings are compared character-by-character for exact equality
- Python evaluates if/elif branches from top to bottom
You've tried the other tabs
Thirty open tabs. Four facts you actually kept.
You watched. You nodded. By Sunday it was gone.
One answer, then back to scrolling.
Eight weeks. You meant to finish. You didn't.
Tomo gives Python from Scratch the Duolingo treatment: levels, streaks, and quick quizzes that test what you just learned. That game loop is what the tabs above never had, so it's the one you actually finish.
Here's what playing it feels like
A real question from this course. Take your best guess.
What happens if you run print(2 + 3) without any quotes around 2 + 3?
