Key ideas in Latin Sentence Building
- Latin verb endings change to show exactly who is performing the action
- Standalone pronouns like 'we' are already bundled inside the verb ending
- Writing extra subject pronouns in simple notes makes the sentence sound unnatural
- Standard Latin sentences typically place the person doing the action first and the verb last
- The object or topic being acted upon sits naturally between the actor and the final verb
- Placing the verb anywhere other than the end sounds awkward in basic formal writing
- 'est' works like an equals sign linking the subject directly to a description or role
- Sentences with 'est' describe what someone or something is rather than an action they do
- Descriptive words linked by 'est' tell your teacher about the subject's identity
- Latin defaults to leaving out personal pronouns because the verb already tells who is acting
- Adding pronouns like 'ego' creates bold, deliberate contrast or personal drama
- Overusing personal pronouns makes regular class correspondence sound boastful or repetitive
- Verbs ending in '-t' indicate that a single person or thing is acting
- Verbs ending in '-nt' signal that multiple actors or the whole group are performing the action
- Matching the singer or group count to the '-t' versus '-nt' ending keeps sentences grammatically clear
- English shows who gets acted on simply by putting the word after the verb
