Anatomy and Physiology for Nursing
Build a working understanding of the human body and how its organ systems cooperate to keep us alive. Tailored for nursing entrance exams like the TEAS and HESI, this course covers high-yield anatomy, physiological feedback loops, and cellular mechanisms.
Like Duolingo, but for Anatomy and Physiology for Nursing. Tomo turns the whole topic into a game you play five minutes a day, until it actually sticks.
26 levels across 4 sections, about 52 minutes end to end, roughly 10 days at five minutes a day. It moves through The Body Map and Vital Balance; Circulation, Respiration, and Defense; Regulation, Metabolism, and Waste; and Physical Structure and Cellular Foundations. It starts from scratch.

Key ideas in Anatomy and Physiology for Nursing
- In anatomical reference, 'left' and 'right' always refer to the subject or patient's own left and right, not the observer's
- When facing a patient in standard anatomical position, their right side aligns with your left hand
- Anterior means toward the front of the body, while posterior means toward the back
- Superior means closer to the head, while inferior means closer to the feet or lower body
- These terms always describe the relative position of one structure compared to another
- Proximal means closer to the point where a limb attaches to the torso
- Distal means farther away along the limb from that point of attachment
- The terms proximal and distal apply specifically to the extremities, not the core trunk
- A sagittal plane runs vertically and divides the body into left and right sides
- A coronal (or frontal) plane runs vertically and separates the anterior front from the posterior back
- A transverse plane runs horizontally to create cross-sectional slices separating superior and inferior halves
- Internal organs are housed in sealed body cavities separated into thoracic and abdominopelvic spaces
- Double-layered serous membranes secrete a lubricating serous fluid between their layers
- The fluid cushion prevents friction and tissue damage as organs like the heart and lungs expand, contract, and slide during normal function
- Homeostasis keeps conditions fluctuating within a narrow normal range rather than fixing them at a static number
- Normal body temperature naturally rises and dips throughout the day with activity, sleep, and metabolic rate
You've tried the other tabs
Thirty open tabs. Four facts you actually kept.
You watched. You nodded. By Sunday it was gone.
One answer, then back to scrolling.
Eight weeks. You meant to finish. You didn't.
Tomo gives Anatomy and Physiology for Nursing the Duolingo treatment: levels, streaks, and quick quizzes that test what you just learned. That game loop is what the tabs above never had, so it's the one you actually finish.
Here's what playing it feels like
A real question from this course. Take your best guess.
You stand face-to-face with a patient. Which of their sides lines up with your left hand?
