Key ideas in Solving the Rubik's Cube
- Center pieces are fixed to the internal core and cannot swap places relative to each other
- The single color on a center piece dictates the final color of that entire side
- Edge and corner pieces move around the centers, never the other way around
- The cube is built from physical 3D blocks (edges and corners), not loose surface stickers
- An edge piece always has two colors locked together, and a corner always has three
- Moving a color on the cube always brings the other colors on that same physical piece with it
- The daisy acts as a staging area where edges can be collected freely without worrying about matching adjacent side colors yet
- Placing edges directly on the white face often knocks previously placed white edges out of position
- Yellow is directly opposite white, making it easy to store edges safely before sending them home
- Inspect the side color attached to the white petal currently on the yellow face
- Rotate the top layer until that side color lines up directly with its matching center piece
- Turn that matched face 180 degrees (a double turn) to swing the white edge down onto the white face
- A corner piece belongs uniquely between the three center pieces matching its three colors
- The target corner must be aligned directly above its intended bottom-layer slot before inserting it
- The right-hand four-move trigger (R U R' U') cycles a corner between layers and twists its orientation
- Repeating the four-move trigger up to 5 times preserves the bottom cross while orienting the corner
